Every creative project has a story at its heart ... but it’s easy to lose sight of it in the noise of daily life. Here’s how to rediscover what makes your work truly meaningful.
Every creative project begins with a spark ... a reason, a moment, an idea that feels alive. But somewhere between the first inspiration and the practical realities of running a business, that spark can get buried.
We start focusing on what we do rather than why we do it. We tweak websites, chase algorithms, and wonder why it suddenly feels harder to describe what once came so naturally.
That’s where finding the heart of your story comes in.
At Everything & Nothing, it’s often the first thing we do with clients and it’s the foundation of The Story Session. Because before you can share your work confidently, you need to reconnect with what sits at its core.
Here are three simple ways to begin ...
1. Return to the moment it began. What first made you want to do this work? Maybe it was a feeling, a frustration, or a memory. Write it down ... not as marketing copy, but as truth. That moment often holds more power than any tagline ever could.
2. Ask what you want people to feel. Stories don’t just tell, they move. When someone encounters your brand, project, or piece of art, what do you want them to feel - calm, curiosity, belonging, joy? That emotional thread is your north star.
3. Notice what keeps showing up.The clues are already in your work ... in the colours you choose, the words you use, the people you’re drawn to. Often, the heart of your story has been there all along; it’s just waiting for you to see it clearly again.
When you reconnect with that centre, everything else ... your messaging, your visuals, your PR all starts to flow more easily.
Because clarity isn’t about finding new words. It’s about remembering the ones that matter most.
